The Salvation Army and The Red Cross Provide Food and Shelter for Line Fire Evacuees
FONTANA, CALIF.—The Salvation Army of San Bernardino and the Red Cross support evacuees from the out-of-control Line Fire in the San Bernardino Mountains with food and shelter at The Jessie Turner Community Center at 15556 Summit Ave in Fontana. The fire has grown to 20,553 acres on Sunday evening with zero containment.
“Beginning Sunday evening, the Red Cross began delivering emergency shelter, while the Salvation Army provides lunch and dinner to more than 100 people,” said Major Isaias Braga, Commander of The Salvation Army of San Bernardino.
According to San Bernardino County spokesperson David Wert, by 4:24 p.m., 23,200 people were under evacuation orders, with another 94,000 under evacuation warnings.
The shelter and food service were planned for San Bernardino, but unhealthy air quality required moving the shelter east to Fontana. “We pray the good Lord send rain right on top of the fires,” said Major Braga.
“We are here to assist the evacuees who require help for as long as necessary,” said Major Braga. “We need donations to continue serving our neighbors in need. I urge people to donate whatever you can at SBCSVA.org.”
Donations may be made online at SBCSVA.org or by 1-(800)-SAL-ARMY. For local information, call (909) 792-6868. Donations can be made at the Salvation Army’s Corps Office at 838 Alta Street, Redlands, California, 92373.
